Ilam- Tea State of Nepal

Ilam, located on the foothills of Mount Kanchanjunga, is a beautiful hill station in eastern Nepal. Apart from mesmerizing views of the lush tea gardens situated at the south Himalayan range of Mahabharat and West range of the Shangrila, its chilled weather, marvelous trekking destinations and picturesque villages are worth visit. Popular for tea products, Ilam is one of the pristine destinations for tourist because of its amazing landscapes of sloped gardens (of tea), mountain streams, dense natural forest, holy sites, rich local culture and cuisines.
Some must-visit places of Ilam are: Antu Danda, Mai Pokhari, Kanyam, Fikkal, Sadakpur, Siddhi Thumka, Chhintapu, Gajur Mukhi and highly praised, worshipped and respected divine temple of Nepal: 'Pathivara'.
Antu Danda(hill) provides a spectacular sight of sunrise, sunset and himalayas. This 2,328m high hill overlooks the Terai flatlands, terraced hills of cash crops, tea gardens and thick pine forests. One can also enjoy the views of Mirik, Kurseong and Darjeeling on a bright and clear day. Mai Pokhari is a pristine lake that boasts of being surrounded by the thick forest of fir, juniper, birch and pine and accommodates various species of flora and fauna that includes different species of orchids, rhododendron, herbs and rare animals like musk deer, leopard, porcupine and jackal and various birds and rare insects. Sadakpur is a five hours trek from Mai Pokhari that gives the travelers a panoramic view of the Himalayas like Mt. Kanchanjunga, Mt. Kumbhakarna, Mt. Makalu and Mt. Everest. The forest in this area also provides shelter to the rare wildlife like red panda, musk deer and Danphe. While Siddhi Thumka also offers the views of sunrise and sunset from an altitude of 1800m, Chhintapu is the second highest peak in this district, rich with natural forests that has around eleven species of rhododendron, herbal plants and various species of birds. Also available here are the rare herb Yarshagumba, wild animals like musk deer and red panda. In Mai Beni at the confluence of rivers Mai Khola and Jogma Khola is the temple of Lord Shiva. Other holy places like Narayansthan, Bhimsensthan, Singha Bahini and Sati Devi Temple in Ilam also seeks visitor’s presence. Pathivara is the temple of Devi in Ilam, believed to be the younger sister of Pathibhara Devi in Taplejung. Its area is filled with aura of divine and devotedness around. Ilam is the place where one can seek mesmerizing outer beauty along with inner peace of soul from nature.
